Insomnia - First Sleepless Night in Months

Yesterday the temperature hit 47.4c in Melbourne and surrounding regions (117f), the hottest day ever recorded here. And DAMN was it hot, I mean take your breath away hot combined with Northerly hot biting and gusty winds, just awful! Bush fires galore throughout the state of Victoria, 25 confirmed dead. What a horrid day it was but at the same time a very good test of endurance against a changing sun! Within seconds yesterday the skin would feel prickly and burnt with heat when exposed to the Sun. Most electrical equipment had to be turned off as was my computer which got too hot to touch.

The heat was the reason for the insomnia I first put it down to but then again it has been over 40 degrees Celsius most days lately and I slept fine through these balmy nights. Did my dose drop trigger a release or was it a one nighter of insomnia for now? Which I hope it was the latter. I know I have a lot of insomnia to look forward to in the next few months and I'm not going to use any pills to put me to sleep, I am going to endure it.

I'm glad my detox will be in Autumn and hopefully by then we'll have seen the tail end of this years hottest Summer ever in Melbourne.

  1. I am not sure about others, but I have never experienced any insomnia as a result of decreasing my suboxone dose. I usually decreased 1mg at a time, but somedays (incredibly rarely) I would take 2 or even 3mg less for some reason. Even on those days, I experienced no insomnia.

I think you might be scaring youtself. The withdrawl will be unpleasant, but you won't have insomnia for months if you cold turkey it. Probably a few nights with little sleep, then disturbed sleep for a week or so. Then you'll be fine.

  2. Perhaps. I admit I tend to think so much during the night, especially of late since booking this Naltrexone Implant. Writing this blog, and keeping a thoughts journal are helping to keep me sane from only getting 2-3 hours per night sleep, which usually starts at 3am.

You are more than lucky to not experience insomnia from your dose reductions. Good on you too for going so far down in your dose, from 16 to under 5mg is amazing!

  3. Not really. In all honesty, I get the same suboxone "high" from 1mg doses as I do from 10mg doses. So I take 3 1mg doses a day now.

The high seems to adjust to the dose you take. But, in all honesty, I never got that high from suboxone. Yes, it does make me feel better, but it's only a slight fizzle of a euphoria. Its easy to not even notice. But it still gives that ever so tiny mood lift, and thats got me hooked like the opiate addict I am.

  4. Yes, I call it the 'glow' as it definitely isn't a 'high' as such! When I was on 14mg for a few months last year (highest dose) the effect went opposite, I was full of rage, frustrated with everyone and craving methamphetamine (gross!) for some wild reason. My Dr. said it could've been bought on by the stimulant effect of Suboxone, and that may be why I was craving that speedy crap and getting so edgy.

I felt immediately better when I reduced to 12mg's again. Today I feel awesome compared to yesterday...

    Take care
